Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism is the first of the Catholic Church's three Sacraments of Initiation.
It celebrates God's loving embrace and
welcomes new members of His Church
into the fullness of life with Christ.

The majority of parishioners baptized at Saint John's are infants and young children. To make the experience as meaningful as possible for their families, parents are asked to attend an hour and a half Baptism Preparation Class before their first child is baptized at Saint John's. Godparents are also welcome to attend the class. The baptism class requirement must be completed prior to requesting a date for baptism.

At least one Godparent must be a practicing Catholic, at least 16 years of age and confirmed in the Catholic Church. A person of another Christian faith may stand as a witness.

A copy of the child's birth certificate is required before the baptism can take place.

  • Baptism Preparation Classes are held on the first Wednesday of every other month, February through December, 7:00 pm in the Parish Office.
  • Baptisms are typically held on the 2nd Sunday of every month at 12:30 pm, except during Lent. Other times may be arranged when there is a special need.
